Artificial intelligence has emerged as a fundamental tool to address highly complex challenges in multiple domains. AI problem solving involves the design, implementation and application of algorithms that simulate human cognitive processes, allowing to address situations characterised by uncertainty, large volumes of data and multiple constraints. This symposium aims to bring together research and developments that explore approaches such as search algorithms, logical reasoning, constraint satisfaction, automatic planning, optimisation and machine learning. These methods have proven effective in key sectors such as healthcare, engineering, robotics, finance, transportation, logistics and education. Academics, researchers and industry professionals are invited to present papers that demonstrate theoretical advances or practical applications of AI in solving complex problems. The symposium will be a space for interdisciplinary dialogue to foster innovative solutions using AI.
Dr. Carlos Hérnandez: Carlos Hernández Ulloa holds a degree in Engineering and Civil Engineering in Computer Science from the University of Concepción, Chile, and a PhD in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC), Spain. He did his postdoc at the Intelligent Decision Making Lab at the University of Southern California in the USA and has done several research stays in AI at universities in North America and Europe. He has received several awards for his research work including the Distinguish Paper Award at the AAAI 2022 AI Conference. He has published more than 60 papers in leading AI conferences and journals. In addition, he has led and participated in national and international research and applied research projects. He is currently a full professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Universidad San Sebastián. His main line of research is AI problem solving using heuristic search and automatic planning methods, with a special focus on problem solving in real-time, dynamic, multi-agent and multi-objective environments. Hernández is an associate researcher at the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CENA), and former president and current director of the Chilean Society of Computer Science (SCCC).
